About The Program:
Through San Francisco recreation & parks, the MRC REBELS girls’ basketball club was founded in 1984 by Oscar Jimenez. He established a small gym in the mission district of San Francisco as the original starting point for women’s aau basketball in California. Now after 30 years of competitive play, the San Francisco MRC REBELS known as one of the dominant in California’s aau basketball circuit with countless title banners and multiple national championships hanging in the rafters.
Oscar Jimenez suddenly passed in 2010 at the age of 57, which resulted in countless girls losing a longtime mentor, friend, and father-figure. His legacy continues with the help of new talent and growth in the game of basketball. The club has successfully rebounded and is looking to innovate & define the future. Each year in his honor, we along with many other programs play in his annual tournament hosted in Reno, NV to continue his legacy.
The MRC REBELS aau program primarily serves girls from San Francisco’s most diverse communities in the city that are known to be under served. Programs like mrc are critical for the future success for these inner-city athletes to have a safe place to succeed, with the intention of attending a 4-year university in the future. The program offers high level skill development. This to help players reinforce and learn proper basketball fundamentals that include; footwork, shooting, passing, rebounding, ball-handling, defense, and building last longing friendships. Also building community through sports.
Each season teams play in both local tournaments, and travel tournaments from; Reno, Los Angeles, Chicago, Portland, and many more locations. Players have the luxury to stay with the program and from 4th grade until high school where they get an opportunity to play in travel tournaments in front college coaches!
The mrc coaching staff has played in NCAA college basketball programs across the country and in pro leagues overseas. The experienced coaching staff is an integral component to the continued success of the rebel’s organization. This allows mrc athletes to realize their full potential and transition into high school as well as college programs.
